December’s Pumpkin Bash
This potato meme was posted on Facebook recently. It gave me a chuckle. Then I started thinking about pumpkins. Pumpkins, not a veggie but a fruit, we use as props for photos, to make beer, pies, bread, Jack-O-Lanterns, and the seeds are delicious. It’s a useful food!
Most dogs love pumpkin! Fresh or canned. It’s excellent for both diarrhea and constipation. I make pumpkin-peanut-butter dog training food that gets dogs’ attention and motivation.
Here is a video from 2013 of my beloved Dobermann, Luigi, who used to love pumpkin time.
Every year, pre-Halloween, I buy at least one pumpkin. I bought two pumpkins this year, and it wasn’t till the second week in December that I cut the second one up into usable parts. Longevity! We use every part of the pumpkin. The meat, seeds, and even the skins to fertilize Mother Earth. And if any varmints want to help themselves to those pieces, they’re welcome to them.
This year I tried something new by cutting strips of the fresh pumpkin and stuffing them into dehydrated trachea, which I then put into freezer bags and into the chest freezer. This will be a delicious treat for the dogs! There’s a photo of the treats in the slide show below.

Next year buy a pumpkin. You’ll enjoy creating pumpkin treats for your dogs and you!

Kong Wobbler vs French Bulldog
Dogs are happiest when they are able to express their energy through physical and mental activitiy. Physical activity inclues fetch, swimming, tug-o-war, chase games and similar fun. Mental activities are about solving puzzles. This includes training through reward-based methods, which is the only way we train our dogs through our board-and-train programs or anytime at Love Wags A Tail Dog Training. Another way to help a dog expend that mental energy is through food toys.
Dogs are scavengers, and helping them reach and express the scavenger within using food toys is a big thing. I’ve seen dogs who are pretty rough on their food toys, and there are plenty toys that can take it, but my board-and-train Frenchie named Rouzzie took being rough with a food toy to the extreme. As a matter of fact, she has a whole other manner of using the food toy. Play hard first, eat later. I call her the Tornado.
Put your seat belt on.

October 17 Morning
Wagging tails at the Love Wags A Tail Board-and-Train Program on the morning of October 17. The two youngsters, Rouzzie, a French Bulldog and Tre, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, have an energetic time of it, while the little old red man, TJ, also a Cavalier, sniffs a bit and takes it easy.
