Rouzzie And The Egg Thing

Board-and-training is about the lessons and making sure the dogs enrolled learn, but it’s also about playing and having a good time. Some of our boarders love to play solo, like this little French Bulldog. She can occupy herself with a toy for hours. Like she did with the Jolly Egg Thing. She found this toy behind a planter, then she pulled it out and had a grand time pushing it around the back yard, getting it and herself dirty. And when she couldn’t get the dirt over and onto her back, she found a nice spot on the pavers to help her with that. It’s all good. We have plenty of water, shampoo, and towels!

The Naughty Dog

One of the learning points this little adorable Frenchie is in board-and-train for is to learn the meaning of no, which goes hand-in-hand with impulse control. This was the start of her lesson. Rouzzie had a tough time hearing me, “No, Rouzzie, no. Get off.” Instead, she heard her own thoughts as she looked at the green toy under that blanket, “Must have toy. Must have toy. Must have that toy!”
Should I be Naughty Today- Rouzzie

And up and onto the top of the heap she went! Boink!

Yes I should be Naughty - Rouzzie

We love the naughty ones at Love Wags A Tail Dog Training. We love a good challenge. Next on our list is to set Rouzzie up for success so she can leave something not so enticing as this fabulous green toy, and we’ll work our way up to this one. She’ll be successful. We’ll make sure of that.

Puppies Playing Keep Away

When a dog or puppy plays, he’s practicing behaviors he would put into use had he been born into a feral world where his survival depended on his developed and perfected skills. This software that drives those skills is still running in our dogs even though our fury friends have been domesticated for hundreds of years.

In the video below, we have puppies who are playing a keep away game. The Frenchie is propelled to own all the toys. It’s her goal in this game. She’s also older than the Cane Corso puppy by three months, so is more deft. Being the dog that had the stuff, usually food, predicted survival in our dogs’ ancestors, this game makes sense.

Also notice at the beginning of the video while the Frenchie hovers over the Nylabone, obscuring it from the Corso, the Frenchie’s ChiPin friend comes along and rather lures the Corso away, while the Frenchie is free to grab the bone and move along. Whether that was on purpose or not is up for argument, but dogs can work on behalf of their team.

This is perfectly healthy play among these puppies and good and necessary for social development. When you send your dog or pup to Love Wags A Tail board-and-train, we take care to train them and to be sure they have a healthy dose of daily play.

The Post Board-and-Train Reunion

When families leave their dogs or puppies at Love Wags A Tail Dog Training for a board-and-train, they often ask if their dogs will miss them or be mad at them for leaving them behind. Some wonder if their dogs will even forget them in the few short weeks they’re here.

There’s usually a moment when the dogs are left behind that they may protest a little with barking, whining, or staring at the fence, but this doesn’t last long. Dogs live in the moment, and once we move onto going into the house for some cookies and meeting the trainer’s dogs, they are too involved with all that’s new for them to mope. They start to adjust to their new environment, and with very few exceptions, they get used to the new routine very quickly. And those that return for follow-up boards come right back into their routines and fit in easily.

When dogs’ owners come to pick them up, they are just as excited to see them as ever, whether they stayed with us for one week or six weeks, dogs remember their people, and get very happy to see them again. Here’s a video of a case in point. Look at the happies these two dogs have when seeing their family again. It’s a lovely thing.
